Health Provider Information about the Vaping and E-Cigarettes Pulmonary Disease
Multiple states across the country have reported clusters of patients experiencing severe respiratory disease after using e-cigarette or vapor products, also known as EVALI (e-cigarette, or vaping, product use–associated lung injury). As of February 18th, 2020, 2,807 cases have been reported from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and two U.S. territories (Puerto Rico and U.S, Virgin Islands). 68 deaths have been confirmed.
As of February 27th, 2020, state and local public health officials in Ohio have confirmed 102 cases of vaping-related severe pulmonary illness and are investigating an additional 3 reports of illness among patients experiencing serious respiratory symptoms following e-cigarette or vaping product use. 96 of the 102 individuals were hospitalized (94%) and there have been 0 deaths in Ohio. Clark County has 1 confirmed case of vaping-related severe pulmonary illness.
