Since the introduction of the “Back to Sleep” campaign, there has been a significant decrease in the number of babies that die from SIDS, so we know that placing your baby on his/her back to sleep does help to reduce the chances of SIDS.
- Place your baby in a bassinet or crib on his/her back to sleep. It is a good idea for the bassinet to be in the same room with you until the baby is 6 months old. Never put your baby in bed with you.
- Your baby should not have anything in the crib except a firm mattress with fitted sheet. No toys, stuffed animals or blankets.
- It is optimal for baby to be in a sleep sack (sleeper) so that a blanket is not needed.
- Don’t overheat the baby.
- Never allow smoking in the house.
